Custodian of Records

The State of Missouri is considered an "open record" state which means all public governmental bodies must provide records that have been compiled while in the course of their duties. There are, however, some exceptions to what records may be made available to the public, especially for law enforcement records. The Missouri Sunshine Law and various other state statutes govern what documents are available to the public. Pursuant to Chapter 610 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, also known as the Missouri Sunshine Law, each public governmental body is required to have an individual that is responsible for the dissemination of records outside of the agency. This individual is known as the Custodian of Records.

In accordance with this requirement, Nicole Lund has been appointed as the Custodian of Records for the Caldwell County Sheriff's Department.

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department completes approximately 300-500 incident and investigative reports per year in addition to hundreds of traffic citations written by the deputies. In addition to processing requests for these records, the Custodian of Records is also responsible for maintaining, securing and archiving all of these plus many more generated by this office.
